WHAT IS A GEL BATTERY?

2023-09-21

A gel battery (or gel battery) is a valve-regulated lead-acid battery (VRLA), a type of sealed acid battery.

This battery consists of a flat or tubular positive plate and has a longer life than any other ordinary battery.

Because of their fixed gel substance, gel batteries can use gel electrolytes and acids like traditional lead-acid batteries.

This gel battery uses the same technology as its competitor, the AGM battery.

However, they work on the gel electrolyte principle rather than absorbent glass mat AGM cells.

Additionally, they are highly heat-resistant and maintenance-free.

How do gel batteries work?

How gel batteries work

Gel batteries have a predetermined amount of gel electrolyte.  They are combined with sulfuric acid and silica powder.

As a result, a chemical reaction creates an immovable, gel-like substance that gives wet batteries their unique name.

The safety valve only allows you to open one way, reunifying the gas inside with the water, causing internal resistance to rise.

So you don't need to check the water level or add distilled water.

Additionally, there is zero gas or smoke release during operation.

From there, you can comfortably install these gel batteries in a ventilated spot indoors.

Advantages of gel batteries

1. Our VELA brand gel batteries have longer battery cycle life

2. Lighter than traditional batteries

3. Deep cycle battery applications - because they charge quickly after being deeply discharged

4. Maintenance-free – thanks to valves that allow opening in one direction

5. Minimal corrosion due to less electrolyte evaporation and spillage, suitable for sensitive electronic equipment

6. Flexibility-watertight

7. Spill-proof design based on non-conductive plastic outer layer

8. Effective anti-vibration

9. No smoke or only a minimal amount of smoke
